Magnesium is a chemical element (metal), which have a chemical symbol as Mg, atomic number 12, atomic weight 24.3050 and common oxidation number
Magnesium metal comes in the group of alkaline earth metal that has the symbol Mg in the periodic table of elements. Magnesium metal is known to be fairly strong, silvery-white, light-weight metal (one third lighter than aluminum) that slightly tarnishes when exposed to air. In the powder form, when this metal comes in contact with moisture it heats and ignites and starts burning with a white flame. It can become difficult to ignite it in bulk, though it is easy to light if it is cut into thin strips. If it starts burning, it gets difficult to extinguish

Manganese is one of the important alloying agents. It is made to form an alloy to improve the strength, toughness, stiffness, hardness, wear resistance, and hardening ability of steels. In combination with aluminum and antimony, especially in the presence of copper, it forms highly ferromagnetic alloys. Manganese dioxide acts as a depolarizer in dry cells and as a decolorizing agent for glass that becomes colored green due to iron impurities. The dioxide also comes into utilization for drying black paints and in the preparation of oxygen and chlorine. Manganese colors glass an amethyst color and it acts as a coloring agent in natural amethyst. The permanganate finds its usage as an oxidizing agent and is helpful in performing qualitative analysis and as a component in medicines. Manganese also works as an important trace element in nutrition, but sometimes exposure to the element is toxic in higher quantities.
